Apex Systems is seeking Thermal Development Lab (TDL) Operations Engineers to work onsite in El Segundo, CA.
Position Overview: We are seeking Engineers responsible for the safe operation of a Thermal Development Lab (TDL) test facility, which includes pumps, compressors, valves, instrumentation, and other equipment with multiple process flows operating at a wide range of temperatures and pressures. Multiple positions are available to support 24/7 operations.
Responsibilities:
- Direct and coordinate all facility activities during the shift to ensure safe and efficient operations and maintenance.
- Coordinate with personnel requesting test services to plan and execute testing.
- Control and monitor facility equipment and data to execute the operating plan and identify anomalies.
- Direct technicians and other personnel to ensure proper execution of planned shift activities.
- Develop modifications to planned shift activities and schedules as necessary to accommodate unforeseen situations.
- Analyze facility performance and develop recommendations for improvement.
- Develop and execute troubleshooting plans in response to anomalies.
- Develop, create, and maintain documentation that supports both internal and external regulatory requirements, including EHS.
- Develop operating and maintenance procedures.
- Direct and coordinate outside vendors and personnel from other Boeing groups for shift activities supporting facility operation and maintenance.
- Prepare shift documentation and coordinate with incoming shift to ensure smooth shift turnover.
- Perform surveillance on equipment via walk-arounds.
- Operate valves and move lightweight supplies and equipment.
- Work under minimal direction.
- Maintain good attention to detail and organization skills.
- Communicate effectively with a diverse audience.
- Basic capability with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Qualifications:
- Associates degree with 9 years related work experience or Bachelors degree with 7 years related work experience. Degree in STEM is desired.
- Experience supporting the operation and maintenance of facility equipment such as pumps, valves, compressors, instrumentation, and heat exchangers.
- Experience developing and troubleshooting procedures, diagnosing, and troubleshooting equipment technical issues.
- Experience with fluid flow/pressure drop principles, rotating machinery, and thermodynamics principles.
- 5 years of work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 years of experience as a lead or supervisor responsible for operation and/or maintenance in a facility with pumps, compressors, valves, and instrumentation.
- 2 years of experience operating with cryogenic systems.
- Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to communicate with a diverse audience.
- Proficient capability with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Flexibility to work shifts including: 2nd, 3rd and 5th Shift (weekend), 2nd/3rd 4/10s, Weekend 3/12
Other requirements:
- Active Top Secret clearance desired.
- Adjudicated Counter Intelligence scope polygraph completed within the last 5 years.
- A current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or willingness to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.
