As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will operate various machinery to complete tasks such as digging, grading, backfilling, and material transport. Your Regular Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Equipment: Safely operate equipment such as excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, skid steers, and loaders to perform digging, grading, and site preparation activities.
- Site Preparation and Excavation: Work with site superintendent to determine excavation plans and execute them according to specifications. This includes trenching, backfilling, grading, and slope stabilization.
- Inspect Equipment: Perform pre-operation and post-operation inspections on equipment to ensure safety and efficiency. Report any maintenance needs or equipment malfunctions to the maintenance team.
- Follow Safety Protocols: Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, including OSHA guidelines. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure the safety of the job site.
- Read Blueprints and Site Plans: Interpret construction plans and blueprints to determine excavation dimensions and other site requirements.
- Material Handling: Load and unload materials such as gravel, sand, and debris using various heavy machinery. Assist with site cleanup and material transport as needed.
- Communication: Maintain clear communication with crew members, supervisors, and other site personnel to ensure tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Environmental Awareness: Take measures to minimize the environmental impact of operations, including proper handling of materials and maintaining clean work areas.

You will report directly to the Superintendent, Crew Lead, or Foreman. You’ll work closely with other equipment operators, laborers, and project managers to ensure seamless coordination on the job site.

- Efficiency: Contribute to project timelines by performing tasks efficiently, reducing downtime, and maximizing equipment productivity.
- Equipment Care: Ensure that all machinery is in good working condition through regular inspections and communication with the maintenance team.
- Technical Requirements
- 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in a construction or excavation environment.
- Ability to identify existing and potential hazards.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe excavation practices is required.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and site layouts is preferred.
- Valid driver license is preferred.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift up to 80 pounds.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
