Qualifications
What You’ll Do
As an ECC doctor at Apex Vets, you’ll deliver comprehensive, compassionate emergency care while leading a skilled nursing team and supporting long-term relationships with our clients and referring partners.
Patient Care & Medical Excellence
- Perform complete exams, workups, and tailored treatment plans
- Interpret diagnostics accurately and recommend evidence-based solutions
- Guide technical staff during emergency procedures and surgeries
- Lead and participate in CPR, emergency stabilization, triage, and monitoring
Client Communication & Support
- Clearly explain diagnostics, treatment options, and prognosis
- Give regular updates to pet owners with kindness and clarity
- Provide discharge instructions and follow-up calls for results
- Help clients understand their options, even when plans need flexibility
Referral & Team Collaboration
- Communicate with referring veterinarians to ensure continuity of care
- Complete and send medical records within 24 hours of consult
- Actively build relationships with the referring community through updates, CE events, and visits
Diagnostics & Procedures
- Confidently perform and interpret:
- Radiographs, bloodwork, urinalysis, ECGs, AFAST/TFAST
- Emergency procedures such as thoracocentesis, abdominocentesis, CPR, and more
- Surgical interventions as trained
Medical Records & Case Management
- Document SOAPs, diagnoses, and plans in Instinct, following AAHA standards
- Finalize records by end of shift or within 24 hours for outpatients
- Ensure clear, thorough records that allow for excellent follow-up care
Who You Are
- DVM/VMD with a current Maryland license (or eligibility to obtain)
- Experienced in ER/critical care or eager to grow with strong mentorship
- Passionate about high-quality medicine, collaboration, and education
- Skilled at working with diverse client backgrounds and clinical situations
- Comfortable leading teams and mentoring nurses and assistants
- Solution-focused with excellent communication and medical decision-making skills
