Job Summary:
Apex Waste Solutions is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Environmental Sustainability Coordinator to lead and support sustainability initiatives within our waste management operations. This role is critical in driving environmental performance, promoting waste reduction strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and identifying opportunities for improving environmental practices across our facilities and services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Implement Sustainability Programs: Design and roll out initiatives focused on reducing landfill waste, enhancing recycling and composting rates, and promoting circular economy practices.
- Data Collection & Analysis: Track waste streams, material recovery rates, greenhouse gas emissions, and other environmental performance indicators; provide insights through detailed reporting and analytics.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and sustainability standards; assist with audits and reporting requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with operations, clients, municipalities, and the public to promote environmental awareness and behavior change.
- Education & Outreach: Organize training programs, community events, and sustainability campaigns to encourage responsible waste management practices.
- Innovation & Research: Evaluate new technologies and methods in waste diversion, reuse, and recovery; recommend adoption of best practices.
- Sustainability Reporting: Assist in preparing internal and external sustainability reports, such as annual ESG reports and performance dashboards.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Waste Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 2 years of experience in environmental sustainability, ideally within the waste, recycling, or environmental services sector.
- Strong knowledge of waste management practices, circular economy concepts, and sustainability frameworks (e.g., LEED, ISO 14001, GRI).
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with sustainability reporting software or databases is a plus.
- Familiarity with zero-waste certification programs and lifecycle assessment (LCA) tools.
- Experience engaging with public agencies or regulatory bodies.
Working Conditions:
- This position involves a combination of office-based work, field visits, and site inspections at waste processing or disposal facilities.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and industrial environments is expected during site visits and audits.
- Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, climb stairs, and occasionally lift items up to 25 lbs.
- May require occasional travel to other facilities, municipal meetings, or community events.
- Standard Monday–Friday schedule, with occasional evening or weekend hours for outreach events or special projects.
Compensation & Benefits:
- $65,000 - $70,000 Yearly Salary
