Job Responsibilities :
1. Vehicle Maintenance and Repair :
o Inspect and repair mechanical and electrical components of fleet vehicles, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, hydraulics, and electrical wiring.
o Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake replacements.
o Ensure proper functioning of specialized waste management equipment (e.g., compaction systems, hydraulic lifts, roll-off mechanisms).
2. Diagnostics :
o Use diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical issues or malfunctions in trucks and equipment.
o Troubleshoot and resolve engine, transmission, and other system problems.
3. Safety and Compliance :
o Ensure all vehicles meet safety standards and regulations as required by federal, state, and local agencies.
o Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed on each vehicle.
o Adhere to company safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
4. Emergency Repairs :
o Respond to emergency breakdowns to perform on-site repairs when needed, minimizing vehicle downtime.
o Assist in vehicle recovery efforts when necessary.
5. Inventory and Parts Management :
o Maintain inventory of parts and supplies, ensuring availability for scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs.
o Order parts and materials as needed, and track costs related to repairs.
6. Collaboration :
o Work with the operations and logistics team to schedule repairs and minimize disruptions to daily routes and services.
o Provide input on vehicle purchases and modifications to improve fleet efficiency.
Required Qualifications and Skills :
- Technical Knowledge : In-depth understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electronics, and vehicle systems.
- Certifications : ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications, especially for heavy-duty trucks, are preferred.
- Experience : 2-5 years of experience as a mechanic or technician, ideally working with heavy-duty trucks or similar vehicles.
- Diagnostic Skills : Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software, such as OBD-II scanners, and the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical and electrical systems.
- Physical Stamina : Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting heavy parts and working in various weather conditions.
- Attention to Detail : Strong focus on ensuring repairs are thorough and vehicles are safe for use.
- Problem-Solving : Ability to quickly diagnose and solve mechanical issues under pressure.
- Driver’s License : Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is often preferred or required, as well as a clean driving record.
