Position Title: Polymer Chemist/Organic Chemist
Job Description:
This position is based in the Polyester R&D Center of APG Polytech, LLC (Far Eastern-New Century) in Sharon Center, Ohio.
The primary role of the position will be to help initiate new projects and support current R&D projects for PET (polyethylene terephthalate) polymers. This is an advanced level position. The duties and experience needed for this position include:
1. The group focuses on developing novel/functionalized polyester resins for downstream applications, such as bottle, sheet, or containers. You will be responsible for the development of new products, processes, technologies, and environmentally friendly formulations.
2. Hands-on experience in the synthesis and modification of polymers, preferably polyesters.
3. A good working knowledge of and preferably experience with the reactive extrusion of polymers and injection molding processes.
4. Strong understanding of polymer physics, property-structure relationships for polymers, polymer blends.
5. Support for ongoing R&D projects, structured group R&D projects, and joint R&D programs with customers.
6. Periodic assistance to the Plant, Supply Chain, and Technical Service to resolve customer issues.
7. Good knowledge of organic chemistry and laboratory technique.
8. Familiarity with the physical, instrumental, and chromatographic methods used to characterize polymers, polymer blends, and organic compounds.
9. Knowledge of statistics and experimental design.
10.Perform polymer or organic synthesis to validate lab formulations, up-scaling in production, product characterization.
11. Responsible for optimization of existing products based on market requirements.
12. You will participate in method development, sample testing, and data analysis in a cross-functional, multidisciplinary team of chemists, engineers, and technologists.
13. Partnering with research scientists and other engineers to validate and scale up the processes to commercial production.
Education:
- Master or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Polymer/Material Chemistry.
Attributes:
- Master or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Polymer/Material Chemistry.
- Experience in polymer industries (polymer processing, polymer rheology, polymer analysis) is a plus.
- Possess analytical thinking skills to design appropriate experiments and accurately interpret results.
- Enjoy working in multi-functional project teams and interdepartmental communication situations.
- Being a self-starter, intrigued by the investigation, discovery, and implementation of new technologies.
- Ensuring a safe work environment by working safely and complying with environmental, health and safety standards.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,299.27 - $110,631.34 per year
