Summary : Under the direction of the collection’s manager, this position will be responsible for investigative duties and the collection of the delinquent loan portfolio which include but are not limited to delinquent, bankrupt, legal, and charged-off loans. This position will be required to meet departmental goals for quality and volume. All processes are conducted in accordance with credit union policy, bankruptcy code, legal regulations, and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and governing state laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Collections :

  • Responsible for the collection efforts on delinquent loans that are 16-149 days delinquent.
  • Duties include member contact to determine the reason for delinquency, making appropriate arrangement to bring the accounts current, and determining if the member has a permanent corrective action to resolve the delinquent status.
  • Responsible for specific, measurable goals for collection dollars, call volume, accounts worked, and quality.
  • Responsible for a complete loan file on each delinquent loan worked. A complete loan file consistent of skip tracking, the use of the next contact date, and working queues as designed by management.
  • Responsible to use resources of an extension agreements, re-age, or collection maneuvers. to assist our members in resolving their delinquent status.
  • Responsible to work with the collection manager and provide weekly updates on their individual queue status including updates on collateral loans prior to repossession.
  • Responsible for monitoring and follow-up on loans that are in an active intent to repossess status.
  • Duties include but not limited to, collection of outstanding collateral titles, maintain collateral loan record, monitor insurance status, and, filing of necessary documents to obtain possible refunds on extended warranties, GAP and CPI, and any documentation related to debt protection products.

Documentation, Record Keeping & Reporting :

  • Responsible to handle a high volume of incoming calls, balance with making outbound collection calls.
  • Review loan file and collection system to ensure all documents are in order, titles are on file, insurance is present for collateral loans, and maintain proper documentation of collection work in the collection system.
  • Training :

  • Assist in training of employees within the department if requested by the collection’s manager.
  • Other Responsibilities :

  • Serve as backup for other team members in their absence.
  • Must be flexible; able to work a varying schedule.
  • Additional : Responsible for completion of applicable training and compliance on federal regulations and APGFCU policies and procedures as related to the duties of this position (Bank Secrecy Act, Information Security as examples, if applicable).

    Qualifications :

    Experience : Five plus years of experience in credit and collections.

    Education / Certifications : Equivalent to a high school diploma plus specialist training in collections.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Knowledge of credit and collection practices preferred. Excellent listening skills in addition to effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to prioritize, negotiate and meet deadlines. Strong analytical skills and mathematical skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Proficiency in using the computer and computer software programs to include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint is a must. Able to work both independently and part of a team.
