Job Summary

API develops and maintains over 800 standards used throughout the global natural gas and oil industry to enhance operational safety, environmental protection, and sustainability. The API Standards Department is currently seeking an intern to support the new Low Carbon Standards team and the broader Standards department. The Low Carbon Standards team leads the development of API standards and guidance in low carbon areas, such as carbon capture and storage (CCS), hydrogen, life cycle assessment (LCA), geothermal, and greenhouse gas (GHG) abatement. This candidate will work in coordination with departments across the Global Industry Services (GIS) division and Policy departments.

Projects and Tasks

  • Track low carbon standards and policies, conduct research, and support pre-standardization work to help identify areas for new low carbon standards development.
  • Participate in and support standards development committees and task groups meetings.
  • Create PowerPoint presentations and present on standards activities and low carbon topics.
  • Work with API standards staff and additional teams to develop content for a low carbon standards webpage, organize internal sites, and supporting the maintenance of retention files.
  • Support workshop planning and webinars, as applicable.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Working towards a degree in Environmental studies, Engineering, Social Sciences, or similar degree.
  • Working knowledge of low carbon energy topics and the natural gas and oil industry.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer
  • Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc.
  • Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines
  • Transport items and equipment up to 25 lbs. on occasion

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 25%
