Journeyman Electrician Job Description
Position Overview:
The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for performing skilled electrical work to ensure systems operate safely and efficiently within the service department. This role includes installing wiring, outlets, lighting fixtures, and circuit breakers, as well as troubleshooting and repairing electrical issues. The Journeyman works independently or as part of a team, interpreting blueprints and technical diagrams, and adhering to national and local electrical codes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Maintenance: Install, repair, and maintain electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, outlets, and circuit panels.
- System Testing and Troubleshooting: Inspect and test electrical systems to identify hazards, malfunctions, or needed repairs, using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Blueprint and Diagram Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine proper installation or repair solutions.
- Compliance and Safety: Follow all safety protocols, electrical codes, and regulations to ensure work meets the highest standards. Understand and adhere to OSHA standards and local building codes.
- Collaborate with Other Trades: Work with contractors, builders, and other trades to ensure timely project completion.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all work completed, including inspections, repairs, and installations. Report findings and recommendations to supervisors as needed.
- Mentorship: Train and guide apprentices or junior electricians when assigned, helping them develop skills and knowledge for career progression.
Work Environment: Journeyman Electricians may work indoors or outdoors, depending on the project. This role may require working in tight spaces, at heights, or in varying weather conditions.
Qualifications:
- Licensure: Valid Journeyman Electrician license NMEE98J.
- Experience: 3 years of experience as an electrician, with strong knowledge of commercial and residential electrical systems.
- Knowledge: Proficiency in local and national electrical codes, as well as familiarity with modern electrical tools and testing equipment.
- Skills: Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy equipment, stand for long periods, and work in various environments, including confined spaces.
- Travel Requirement: You must be willing to travel as necessary.
