Position Overview:
The Certified Central Processing Technician (CPD Tech) is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, inventory management, and tracking of reusable surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment. This role ensures compliance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures to maintain a safe and efficient sterile processing environment.
Essential Functions:
- Processing and Assembly: Ensure the processing and assembly of medical supplies and instrumentation meets productivity measures of a cumulative average of at least 80% during an 8-40 hour work week.
- Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently operate automated washers, sterilizers, and other equipment following manufacturers' instructions and departmental policies.
- Transportation and Sorting: Transport soiled medical instruments/devices according to departmental protocols and sort items for safe decontamination and cleaning.
- Inspection: Inspect all instrumentation and equipment for cleanliness, defects, and proper functioning before packaging (100% of the time).
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records and ensure all documentation is complete and initialed (100% compliance).
- Tracking System Proficiency: Use the SPM Instrument Tracking System for all work assignments proficiently.
- High-Level Disinfection/Sterilization: Ensure items are subjected to appropriate disinfection/sterilization modalities with validated documentation.
- Case Cart Management: Ensure all patient-specific case cart needs are met with complete sets whenever possible.
- Communication: Foster effective communication regarding workflow, equipment issues, and opportunities for service improvement.
- Safety Compliance: Demonstrate knowledge of safety programs and maintain dress code compliance (100% adherence).
- Emergency Plans: Follow internal and external emergency plans timely (100% adherence).
- Continuous Learning: Attend departmental staff meetings and in-services to stay informed.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience with scope reprocessing required for scope processing roles.
- Preferred: At least two (2) years in a central supply or OR processing area.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) upon hire, or
- Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) upon hire.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of hospital personnel.
- Self-motivated with the ability to perform varied tasks with minimal supervision.
- Shift: 3rd Shift (12:00 PM - 8:30 AM), Monday - Friday with rotating weekends (1x every third weekend).
