  • Duties of Medical Director :

    Leadership and Administration

  • Serve as the spokesperson and representative of the hospitalist medical group.
  • Establish strong relationship with case management, nursing, hospital leadership, and other pertinent stakeholders. Create recurring meetings and constant communication with these stakeholders.
  • Team Management

  • Assist recruitment efforts for new hospital medicine physicians and APCs.
  • Maintain stable staffing model to accommodate patient volume and acuity.
  • Have a contingency plan for volume surges.
  • Ensure schedule is fully staffed.
  • Have a contingency plan for volume surges.
  • Lead routine, internal meetings (at least one quarterly).
  • Conduct annual individual performance evaluations.
  • Implement performance improvement plan (PIP) for individuals who are at least one standard deviation worse than group average.
  • Provide mentorship and support to team members while fostering a positive and collaborative culture.
  • Expect citizenship from the hospitalist team – join committees, participation in MDRS, etc.

  • Lead quality improvement initiatives within the hospital medicine program.
  • Develop protocols and procedures to ensure compliance and patient safety.
  • Review data at least monthly to identify opportunities for improvement.
