ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING

Scope of Position: The primary purpose of the Assistant Director of Nursing is to promote the Apostolic Christian Skyline’s mission by teaching, encouraging, and by example, show respect to the residents through listening to their needs and caring for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. The Assistant Director of Nursing models servant leadership upholding the mission of AC Skylines which is, “A Christian retirement community where choices, dignity and fellowship thrive in a loving home.”

Job Responsibilities:

• Assists Director of Nursing with establishing department processes, policy and procedures
• Assists Director of Nursing with nursing competency and training processes
• Learn and understand resident’s needs and teach staff – promote resident-centered care
• Develop processes to promote good communication (within nursing staff and with other departments)
• Assist in developing and promoting “The Skylines Way” of good customer care and service
• Assists in Interview and hire CNA’s (along with HR)
• Assists with Mentor program process & training
• Coach and Supervise the CNA staff utilizing the DON for assistance when necessary. Participate in Daily Huddle
• Teach resident care according to care plan. Offer ideas to promote resident’s quality of life
• Perform Annual CNA performance reviews (Make sure CNA’s are in compliance with training hours)
• Monitor attendance and address any disciplinary action needed in this area
• Learn and teach the Skylines Electronic Health Record (Matrix) system
• Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action
• Direct nursing staff to observe and implement Resident Rights
• Helps cover shifts on the floor when needed
• Takes on-call on a rotating basis – available to come in if necessary
• Attends nursing meetings
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team with resident care
• Community Coordinator back up when on vacation or time-off
• Consistently demonstrate responsibility, accountability, and dependability
• Observe all facility safety policies and procedures
• Demonstrate consistent ability to manage nursing service problems, emergency situations, and initiate life saving measures in the absence of a physician
• All other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing

Qualifications: The Assistant Director of Nursing needs to be flexible with his/her scheduled hours. Current position does require 2 days working as a Floor nurse and 3 days in Office. It requires a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois. Long term care experience is helpful, but not required, 1-2 years management, and computer experience is also helpful. Personality requirements include but are not limited to being a team player, possessing empathy, displaying work that reflects accuracy and consistency, effective communication skills, and compassion for the elderly.
