About the Position
The Construction Consultant position combines problem-solving, construction management, long-range planning and teaching within ASP’s summer home repair program. Responsible to the Home Repair Coordinator, the Construction Consultant provides construction insight and expertise within a limited budget. The Construction Consultant typically works with summer center staffs, and volunteers in the rehabilitation of substandard housing.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist summer center staff in home selection and long-range planning
- Weekly visits to each of the assigned centers
- Maintain regular contact with each assigned center staff throughout the week
- Work with staff and volunteers on-site to assure quality repairs
- Share construction decisions with center staff prior to discussing with volunteers
- Advise staff on county code requirements and work with inspectors, volunteers and staff to ensure code compliance
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Appalachia Service Project, Inc. as listed in the employee manual, policy statements, and other documents
- Have weekly contact with the HRC concerning what is seen in counties, including particular potential strengths and areas of improvement for our construction practices
Candidate Description
Required
- Desire to work in a Christian environment
- Responsible work habits
- Valid driver’s license and driving record that is acceptable to ASP’s insurer
- Strong knowledge and expertise in the area of home rehabilitation and construction
- Knowledge of federal, state, county, and local code requirements
- Flexibility with work hours and days
- Ability to work with, train, advise, and assist staff and volunteers as part of a home repair ministry
Desirable
- Experience with non-profit home repair construction
- Experience with youth camps or service trips
- Experience with ASP summer staff and/or volunteer trips
Compensation
- The salary is based on caseload of ASP centers, expertise, and experience
- Vehicle use; ASP can provide a vehicle for official purposes only and in accordance with ASP’s vehicle policy
