What are the responsibilities and job description for the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner position at Appalachian Community Services?
This is a professional medical position providing advanced and specialized treatment services within comprehensive mental health community centers. This position provides psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis, initiates and monitors psychopharmacologic treatments and provides after hours on-call telephone consultations.
This position provides clinical supervision to nursing personnel, supervises medication assistance programs and monitors medication dispensing from assistance programs as needed.
Must have a through knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of general psychiatry and of the techniques involved. Through knowledge of recent developments in the field of psychiatry. Through knowledge of the practice of medical specialty of psychiatry that is both current and accurate. Must have skill in treating and diagnosing a variety of mental diseases and disorders. Must also have the ability to compile clear and concise notes for patients’ charts and records. The physician extender must also have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, other non-medical personnel, patients and their families as well as the general public.
This position serves a wide range of clients across a rural catchment area and must be sensitive and able to respond appropriately across the cultural differences present in the service population. Training requirements include awareness of the cultural diversity of clients served.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, prefer two years of experience in the field of psychiatry.
License:
