Position: Accounting Supervisor

Summary Description: Under the general direction of the Controller, the Accounting Supervisor is responsible for the appropriate and timely recording of all accounting transactions for AMC, ensuring effective internal controls and efficient processing, and overseeing the monthly and annual close process and accurate reporting of financial results. Supervising a staff of three employees, this position requires excellent communication skills to interface with managers, staff and volunteers throughout the organization.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Document, implement, monitor and enhance accounting policies, procedures and internal controls. Supervises personnel and transactions in invoicing, receivables, cash receipts, payables, and payments.
- Help explain financial accounts, policies and procedures to managers and supervisors to help them gain a better understanding of financial procedures, programs, and accounting requirements.
- Supervises or prepares journal entries, reconciliations to sub ledgers, and ensures an accurate general ledger and trial balance for all fund classifications and entities.
- Performs technical accounting work.
- Designs and produces timely financial statements and reports to meet management and external needs and requirements.
- Performs analysis of results and communicates with staff and managers throughout the organization to resolve questions and issues.
- Oversees compliance activities and reporting, including extensive preparation for external audits and exempt tax returns (Form 990).
- Main point of contact for volunteer treasurers; ensure accurate maintenance of volunteer bank accounts and processing of volunteer wire transactions.
- Assists with the annual budget as assigned.
- Maximizes use of technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy of processes and reporting.
- Keyplayer in safeguarding AMC’s assets.
- Mentor and develop staff.
- Other duties as requested or assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (in related field preferred) and progressive experience of five years in finance and accounting experience demonstrating skills and ability for successful performance of the position.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment, working independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional ability to plan, organize, delegate and support the work of staff and the department.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP accounting software and the Management Reporter reporting tool.
- Expertise with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Access and Word.
