Summary Description: The Appalachian Mountain
Club (AMC) seeks an experienced design professional who can further lead,
define, strengthen and maintain the integrity of AMC’s brand and branding via
visual design. This position works as part of the Communications Team to
produce high-quality communication materials. The Design Lead will strategize
around messaging and design, producing original digital work for all AMC
channels, improving, overseeing, maintaining all AMC design processes. This
role will collaborate closely with the Multimedia Lead and across the
Communications Team and all departments to visually define, reinforce and
support the work of AMC.

Primary Responsibilities:
Design and Production

The Design Lead will use AMC’s mission of conservation, education and recreation to inform the design and production goals for Communications Team and other AMC groups, advancing the visual brand of AMC. This full-time position is based at AMC’s Boston headquarters.
Primary Responsibilities:
Design and Production
- Determine branding and department design
priorities with Director of Content and Chief Communications & Marketing
Officer.
- As visual brand steward, take a lead role in developing and implementing design and style guidelines to strengthen AMC’s visual identity in order to increase audience engagement.
- Guide design concept process across departments by actively engaging stakeholders to determine project goals including objective, audience, schedule and budget.
- Design and prepare for production AMC’s print publications, including brochures, event materials and templates, as well as art for the AMC core website and other digital channels.
- Create, maintain and manage a production calendar and production schedules for each project, taking the lead on all creative communications.
- Provide feedback, critique and design guidance to Communications colleagues; assign tasks as appropriate.

- Manage existing design consultant relationships,
while exploring options to consolidate AMC design work in-house.
- Manage flow of projects from review and revisions to final signoff and to creative consultants.
Qualifications and Experience:
- 7-10 years of design work experience in both
print and digital media.
- User experience design expertise a plus. Portfolio required.
- Superior skills with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
- Demonstrated ability to use design to show the impact of an organization and to help make complex information compelling and accessible.
- Apparel, logo and cartography experience a plus.
- Exceptional organizational skills including resourcefulness, attention to detail and excellent follow-through.
- Flexibility and commitment to excellence.
- Ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to juggle a variety of assignments in a time-pressured environment.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
