Position: Financial Planning & Analysis Manager
Location: Boston MA or Pinkham Notch (NH), some remote work
Supervisor: Chief Financial Officer
Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club (www.outdoors.org) is the oldest conservation, education and recreation organization in the United States. The AMC promotes the protection, enjoyment, and wise use of the mountains, rivers and trails of the Appalachian region. The Financial Planning and Analysis Manager will report to the Chief Financial Officer and work in close alignment with the Controller. The manager will be a primary resource for financial planning, analysis and reporting and will contribute their expertise to departmental and organization projects.
What you’ll do:
- Financial Planning
- Coordinate department managers & AMC Leadership in developing strategic plans, budgets and forecasts across all business units and activities.
- Develop and maintain an effective and efficient system for carrying out financial planning, including playing a leading role in adopting and structuring new planning and reporting software.
- Support business development efforts across the organization.
- Reporting & Analysis
- Gather financial and non-financial data from departments and consolidate for reporting purposes.
- Design and produce concise user-friendly reports for stakeholders within accounting, area managers, and leadership with a focus on results and key performance indicators.
- Review monthly accounting reports to identify, understand, and report significant variances.
- Provide support for AMC’s Volunteer leaders in managing and carrying out their planning and reporting functions.
- Project Organization
- Assist Chief Financial Officer and Controller on departmental and organizational initiatives and major transactions
- Support new systems and policy implementation
- Contracts Administration & Risk Management
- Review contractual agreements for key financial terms, risks and potential exposure, recommending changes where appropriate
- Coordinate with insurance brokers and staff to support renewals and new coverages
- Support benefits administration and analysis
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or finance and progressive experience of three to seven years, demonstrating skills and ability for successful performance of this position
- Understanding of GAAP, processing transactions in a General Ledger, building financial statements and conducting financial analysis
- Exceptional ability to work as part of or lead a diverse team toward a common goal
- Ability to gather, organize and analyze large volumes of data; to identify and communicate key information concisely and effectively; and, to propose and follow through on mitigating risks and/or pursuing opportunities
- Able to prioritize many competing priorities, and lead tasks to completion
- Expert at Microsoft Office Products Suite (O365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.); Experience with accounting and planning systems helpful (Intacct, Vena, Adaptive Insights)

Compensation and benefits:
Salary Range: $70,000-$75,000
