Salary: $36,000-$40,000

The Housekeeping and Grounds Supervisor’s primary responsibility is to ensure the beauty and cleanliness of the Highland Center Lodge’s buildings and grounds for the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC). The Housekeeping and Grounds Supervisor oversees all Housekeeping Duties in the Highland Lodge and Shapleigh bunkhouse, all custodial duties on the property, and all grounds maintenance on the property. This active leadership position manages one full time Head Housekeeper and rotating seasonal staff annually. The Housekeeping and Grounds Supervisor sets expectations and communicates well with all those working within the Custodial/Housekeeping Department, the Guest Services staff, and Management.

Primary Responsibilities:
Supervise daily cleaning of all guest spaces, including sleeping rooms, common areas, bathrooms, hallways, and meeting spaces.
Supervise daily custodial duties including the cleaning of common spaces and bathrooms, cleaning the Shapleigh bunkhouse, organizing the loading dock, transferring recycling, and shoveling snow.
In the summer months, supervise the work of the Groundskeeper, including mowing and trimming, watering plants and landscaping, picking up litter, sweeping outdoor spaces, and keeping the outside of all buildings tidy.
With assistance, hire seasonal staff positions as needed.
Qualifications:
Communicate with incoming housekeeping/custodial staff and organize transportation needs for them upon arrival and departure as needed.
Create department schedules, approve departmental payroll.
With the help of the Head Housekeeper, orient and train all new staff housekeeping/ custodial staff. Provide daily direction and conduct daily room inspections to ensure work meet expectations.
Launder all linens and outdoor gear used on property.
Maintain all housekeeping inventory, implement replacement schedules, order routine cleaning supplies through the Purchasing Manager, and make large item purchase requests through the Highland Center General Manager.
Maintain all uniform and nametag inventory for the property.
Organize incoming and outgoing staff in the dormitory, make sure the rooms are clean and ready for new arrivals, clean and inspect after departure.
Schedule deep cleaning on the property weekly/monthly.
Model and ensure exceptional customer service at all times.
Attend weekly Highland Center BEO meetings and ensure all housekeeping/custodial needs for upcoming groups are scheduled and implemented.
Other duties as assigned by AMC.
Qualifications and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience which provides the required skills and knowledge for successful job performance.
Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work well with people of different backgrounds is required.
Prior experience requiring leadership or employee supervision preferred.
A general understanding of the AMC programs, activities and its’ mission is preferred.
An eye for detail is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 60 pounds from floor to chest height for extended periods of time.
Stand, walk, sit, move freely and climb stairs unassisted for extended periods of time.
Ability to climb multiple levels of stairs repeatedly, bending, twisting and reaching motions.
Ability to safely use step ladders, cleaning equipment, snow shovels and hand carts.
The Appalachian Mountain Club has zero tolerance for child abuse or placing children in danger.
