Overview
The Dialysis Clinical Service Line Director is responsible for managing inpatient and outpatient dialysis services in partnership with the local healthcare team, facilitate coordination between inpatient dialysis providers and outpatient facilities. This role will also be responsible for implementing and monitoring quality improvement projects for the dialysis services across the ARH system. This role will perform operational and financial audit assignments as well as develop work queues and reports that provide operational leaders with key business metrics and productivity measures. The Dialysis Service Line Director will serve as the primary liaison between revenue cycle, IT and clinical leaders to ensure charge capture process function smoothly and documentation requirements for third party and contractual billing are met. The role will have a comprehensive understanding of CMS regulations, facility regulatory requirements, End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) billing requirements.

General activity: Must be able to sit or drive for 6-8 hours. Must be able to walk or stand for 1-2 hours. Must be able to travel, including occasional night and weekend responsibilities.

Weight/Force: Must possess the physical ability to exert 10 to 20 pounds of force occasionally.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement audit programs that provide operational leaders with statistical data for use in determining staffing requirements, achievement of productivity measurement goals, accuracy and completeness of dialysis patient billing.
- Develop, produce, validate and distribute contractual dialysis billing reports to revenue cycle departments.
- Assist operational leaders in implementing workflow changes to ensure timely, accurate entry of dialysis charges and documentation requirements are met.
- Develop long-term, positive relationships with patients, patient families, inpatient coordinated care and community-based dialysis facility staff.
- Understand the role of each member of the health care team and the services they provide while also demonstrating an understanding of the specialty care needs of the dialysis patient.
- Facilitate continuity of care for patients by planning and exchanging information with the inpatient dialysis provider and/or the community-based dialysis facility. This may include, but is not limited to, proactive review of the patients’ chart to ensure follow-up care is scheduled and arrangement for transportation to and from appointments are made and communicated to the patient and/or family.
- Create, assemble and disseminate patient communication tools and documentation related to and necessary for continuity of care. Such work may include discharge packets, sending referrals, and completing necessary release of information.
- Utilize the electronic medical record to obtain and document information related to the discharge process.
- Contact insurance companies and review agencies to initiate prior approval for supplies, medications, and diagnostic tests. Advise Social Work and other UW Health financial assistance programs regarding underinsured or uninsured new start dialysis patients
- Maintain confidentiality in handling all patient related matters.
- Provides direction and leadership for the service line in an efficient manner by planning, organizing, and controlling all activities to obtain maximum results by growing existing services and developing and implementing new services.
- Responsible for assisting with achieving accreditation at each facility that offers services.
- Assists with development and implementation of service line strategic plans.
- Monitors and prepares quarterly reports regarding achievement of strategic plan targets and goals.
- Responsible for financial oversight of services, specifically aimed at achieving budgetary and strategic financial targets.
- Assists with the production of periodic financial analyses for the service line (s).
- Evaluates the quality of services being provided in the service line through an on-going quality improvement program, in accordance with the ARH System Quality Program.
- Assures action plans are developed for identified areas of improvement, and progress monitored.
- Collaborates and interacts with the clinical providers and the quality care team(s) in the delivery of services.
- Implements community outreach efforts and education about services. Implementation and ongoing performance requirements around key quality indicators
- Collaborates with clinical leaders to determine and advance equipment and technical improvements; evaluates ongoing equipment needs and recommends equipment and technology purchases into strategic plans and budgets.
- Participates in recruitment and retention activities related to the ARH service line scope of services.
- Develop and implement educational initiatives and assist is developing initial and ongoing competencies for the clinical staff

- In coordination with the Service Excellence Manager/Director, responsible for tracking patient satisfaction scores, developing and implementing services and programs to drive service excellence.
- Travel required with occasional nights and weekend responsibilities.
