Overview

The Communications Specialist will play a major part in sharing the ARH story with the health system’s internal and external audiences. As a member of the ARH Corporate Communications Department, the Communications Specialist will provide a wide range of support related to the health system’s internal and external communications including, but not limited to, developing and editing a variety of content for informational and outreach purposes, such as press releases, articles, testimonials, correspondence, photos, videos, newsletters, reports, fact sheets, brochures, briefings, social media posts, blog posts, and website content. This position will entail quick-turn around and longer-term editing and writing requests with emphasis on clarity of communication style and accuracy of content. All work and items will be consistent with ARH’s established identity, brands, and style.

Remote office, candidate should be based in Hazard, KY or a close neighboring community

Responsibilities

Writing/Editing – Development of a wide range of communication plans and materials (including seeking out content for press releases, feature stories, brochures, flyers, and website content, among other materials), conveying health-related topics, issues, and service information in a clear and vibrant manner to a range of audiences. Maintain consistent editorial and communications standards, branding, and guidelines. Keen attention to detail, professional writing style, consistency, and ability to produce error-free work is a must.

 

Project Management – Coordination of public and internal communication activities (*tasks will include media announcements, writing and distribution of news releases, blog, and social media posts, newsletters, or webinars, and performing other communications duties as assigned.)

Media Relations ­­ – Seek out, develop and pitch story ideas to the media, respond to media inquiries and work with internal departments to arrange media stories while adhering to internal policies and required patient privacy guidelines.

Qualifications

EducationBachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.

 

Minimum Work Experience3-5 years of professional experience and demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and AbilitiesSPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:1. Advanced writing and editing skills (including compelling human-interest pieces and clear and direct corporate communications)2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with knowledge of emerging communications trends, technologies, and the social medial landscape3. Ability to create effective messaging and direct contributions from multiple sources4. Ability to learn multiple styles to produce, review, and revise promotional documents with a keen eye for detail5. Working knowledge of still photography and basic videography 6. Ability to prioritize based on stated goals to manage multiple tasks and deliver results under tight deadlines7. Practical knowledge of AP style, writing for publication and editing is preferred. 8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs9. Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is a plus10. Demonstrated planning and organizational skills11. Ability to work both individually with minimal supervision and in a project-based team environment12. Strong initiative and self-motivation in working toward department goals, and a willingness to put forth the effort to get the job done13. The ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively with teams in media relations, internal communications, marketing and other departments is essential.
