Overview:
The Hospital Health Records Analyst is responsible for compiling specific patient care data for use in
establishing standards for measuring the quality of medical care.
Responsibilities:
Interview members of the medical staff to record the optimum measures and standards accepted in
providing quality patient care.
Organize medical data into a structural set of criteria and enter data into the computer.
Using criteria approved by the medical or other hospital professional staff, retrieve information from a
group of medical records to determine what areas met their criteria and what areas did not.
Match established criteria against the medical records and summarize the results for submission to the
Medical Records Administrator.
Interpret medical record reports and explain medical record retrieval methods to committees reviewing
the quality of medical care.
Maintain a file of remedial actions which need to be taken for improved patient care and review the
file for adherence to scheduled actions.
Prepare routine tabulations required by the hospital administrative staff.
Maintain files of statistical reports and indexes.
Prepare routine statistical reports for various administrative and medical staffs.
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Two years of college with 3 years experience in a Medical Records Department and/or is enrolled in
an accredited Medical Records program for HIM/Coding.
May be an Accredited Records Technician.
POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess physical ability to endure prolonged sitting; moderate walking; lifting and carrying. May
require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently;
and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires ability to endure excessive
typing. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
