Position Overview

As a Patient Mobility Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients within a healthcare facility. Your primary responsibility will be to assist patients with mobility limitations, helping them with transfers, positioning, and mobility exercises. By promoting patient comfort and independence, you will contribute to their overall well-being and recovery. The Mobility Tech performs all job functions under the direction of a licensed nurse, assisting the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with their skills / training and the needs of the department. The Mobility Tech supports the patient care team by maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment.

Compensation is a flat rate of $16.00 per hour and is eligible for shift differential on top of the base rate of pay for qualifying shifts.

  • Compensation is commensurate upon education & experience – range is $16.00 / hour or more (depending on education & experience). Benefits begin the first of the month following 60 days of employment from the new hire orientation date. This position is a non-exempt position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with mobility tasks such as transfers, positioning, and mobility exercises under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
  • Promote patient comfort, safety, and independence while ensuring a clean and organized environment.
  • Support nursing staff by monitoring patient mobility and reporting changes in patient conditions.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, families, and healthcare team members to provide high-quality care.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Position Requirements

    Minimum Education :

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Additional certification in patient care or healthcare support is a plus.
  • Experience :

  • Prior experience as a Patient Mobility Technician, nursing assistant, or similar role in a healthcare setting is advantageous.
  • Required Registration / License / Certification :

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire.
  • Certification as a CNA, LPTA, COTA, athletic trainer, medical assistant, paramedic, EMT, or other relevant health-related field is required.
  • Actively pursuing or possessing a bachelor’s degree in a health-related field (e.g., exercise science, health studies, etc.) within two (2) years of hire may be accepted in lieu of certification.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and adherence to Mobility Tech scope of practice under licensed supervision.
  • Competence in delivering safe and effective patient care within certification and hospital policies.
  • Strong empathy and compassion for patients, demonstrating dignity and privacy awareness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and staff.
  • Understanding of safety procedures and the ability to prioritize patient and staff safety.
  • Adaptability to work in a dynamic healthcare environment with changing patient needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse healthcare professionals.
  • Keen attention to detail in documenting patient information and following protocols.
  • Physical Demands

  • Lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and transfer patients of various weights safely.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility.
  • Near acuity : ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.
  • Working Conditions

  • Exposure to risks of bloodborne diseases.
  • Exposure to hazards from electrical / mechanical equipment and unpleasant elements such as slippery / uneven surfaces.
  • Subject to irregular hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Continuous standing and walking for periods greater than 8 hours per shift.
  • Exposed to vibration and cramped spaces.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling over 50 lbs per shift.
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and turning.
