Position Overview

The Staff Ready Float provides support services to various non-clinical units within the healthcare system, including Patient Observation, Admissions, Transport, and other areas as deemed competent. This role requires ethical decision-making, compassion, and effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure high-quality outcomes in patient experience, safety, and satisfaction. The Staff Ready Float adheres to ARHS policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of behavior while demonstrating professionalism, efficiency, and accountability in all aspects of their work.

Compensation is commensurate upon education, experience, certification, and internal equity. Hiring compensation range starts from $16.00 / hour.

  • Compensation is commensurate upon education & experience – range is $16.00 / hour or more (depending on education & experience). Benefits begin the first of the month following 60 days of employment from the new hire orientation date. This position is a non-exempt position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support across multiple non-clinical units, including Patient Observation, Admissions, and Transport.
  • Ensure compliance with all ARHS policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff to support a positive patient experience.
  • Maintain a professional and compassionate approach in all interactions.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in various areas based on organizational needs.
  • Position Requirements

    Minimum Education :

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience :

  • Experience within a hospital setting preferred.
  • Required Registration / License / Certification :

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians using positive verbal and non-verbal skills.
  • Competence in delivering safe and effective support within the legal limits of certifications and hospital policies.
  • Understanding of the continuum of care provided in the healthcare setting.
  • Strong customer service skills to enhance the patient and family experience.
  • Physical Demands

  • Lifts, positions, pushes, pulls, and / or transfers up to and greater than 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility.
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking for extensive periods.
  • Frequent bending, squatting, twisting, and turning.
  • Near acuity : ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.
  • Working Conditions

  • Frequently exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases.
  • Frequently exposed to hazards such as electrical / mechanical / power equipment, odorous chemicals, and unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery / uneven surfaces).
  • Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) and emergency situations.
  • Continuous standing and walking for periods equal to or greater than 8 hours per shift.
  • Speaking, reading, and writing for more than 8 hours per day.
  • Exposure to vibration and cramped spaces.
  • Frequently mobilizes patients for more than 4 hours per day.
  • Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, and / or pulls more than 50 lbs per shift.
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, turning, and reaching.
  • Frequently exposed to soft voices at distances greater than 3 feet.
  • Frequently engaged in close eye work.
  • Infrequently exposed to ionizing / non-ionizing radiation exposure, including x-ray and microwave.
