Position Summary Information
Minimum Qualifications
The Department of Nursing is seeking one or more 9-month and / or 12-month positions with the following qualifications :
Have an earned MSN or DNP by the time of appointment from an accredited institution; a commitment to excellence in teaching compatible with the BCHS mission; and 1 year of full-time experience in nursing clinical education.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
The department is seeking a faculty member with one or more years of full-time teaching experience in a nursing program, experience with online instruction, simulation lab experience, and clinical expertise in adult health, mental health, medical / surgical, and / or care of women / children.
License / Certification Required
Licensure as a registered nurse in good standing in North Carolina or a compact state, meeting the North Carolina Board of Nursing's requirements for nurse educator.
Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Nursing has around 560 students, which includes the pre-licensure BSN, the online RN to BSN, and the online MSN programs with a concentration in nursing education. The BSN, RN to BSN, and MSN programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Department is in the process of developing a new DNP Nurse Practitioner program to begin in fall of 2025. The programs are located in Boone in the Holmes Convocation Center and the Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences, the cornerstone of Boone's Wellness District. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Nursing, the position requires teaching and service responsibilities. A master of science in nursing or doctor of nursing practice is required. Candidates who are enrolled in a MSN or DNP program are eligible to apply if all degree requirements will be completed by the date of appointment.
The successful candidate's responsibilities may include teaching in the classroom, clinical settings, simulation lab or online in any of the programs. There are no on-line only teaching positions within the Department of Nursing. Teaching may include capstone projects or thesis committee participation. In addition, responsibilities include service on committees, advising students, assisting with program development and evaluation, and participation in official activities of the Department, College, and University.

ABD Description
ABD with reduction in rank and salary : ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
No ABD consideration : Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
