Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have prior experience in field biology, demonstrate good communication skills, ability to lift 50 lbs, and be willing to work in rugged, humid environments. The applicant must also possess at least B.S. in biology with a GPA >
3.0, ecology or wildlife biology.
License / Certification Required
A valid driver's license is required for this position.
Essential Job Functions
Technician positions are available in the Davenport lab to assist in salamander surveys in the
Southern Appalachians. The technician's primary duties will be to continue intensive surveys of field sites in Tennessee and North Carolina. The field season will be from February-October. The technician will also assist with other projects to evaluate how food webs may have changed in response to an extreme disturbance event (e.g., Hurricane Helene). The technicians will regularly interact with a variety of stakeholders ranging from other biologists to private landowners. The position begins in February 2025.Technicians will be required to be based out of Boone, NC. Housing is not provided in Boone but all lodging during travel to field sites is covered.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with salamander surveys and mark-recapture techniques is preferred but not required. Successful applicants will be able to work well independently and in team settings.
