ABOUT AIBI:
AIBI is the only official organization in Illinois dedicated to supporting the sewn products industry. We nurture the textile and fashion community through educational programs, membership services, and business support. Since 1987, we have helped establish over 300 apparel and sewn products companies, placed hundreds in manufacturing jobs, and provided mentorship and educational resources to countless industry professionals.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
As the driving force behind AIBI, the Executive Director will lead strategic initiatives that support and grow Illinois’ sewn products industry. This role offers the opportunity to shape programming, strengthen industry partnerships, and directly impact the success of fashion entrepreneurs and manufacturers. The Executive Director oversees AIBI’s operations, including marketing, membership services, financial management, grant writing, and community engagement. This role requires strong leadership, industry expertise, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic nonprofit environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Marketing & Communications: Develop and oversee AIBI’s content strategy, social media, website, and newsletters, ensuring brand consistency and engagement.
- Membership Oversight: Coordinate with Membership Committee to manage renewals, outreach initiatives, and partnerships to enhance member benefits.
- Fashion Lab Oversight: Coordinate with Fashion Lab Manager for facilities maintenance, equipment procurement, and support members in utilizing technology.
- Programming & Events: Work with the Board of Directors to develop educational programs, build partnerships, and ensure financial accountability.
- Financial Oversight: Manage bookkeeping, payroll, budgeting, and compliance for nonprofit reporting.
- Community & Industry Engagement: Foster relationships with businesses, educational institutions, and government entities.
- Grant Writing & Fund Development: Identify funding opportunities, write proposals, and manage reporting requirements.
- Board of Directors Support: Serve as the primary liaison, coordinate meetings, and provide organizational updates.
- Operational Support: Handle practical tasks to ensure smooth day-to-day functioning of AIBI.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Leadership experience in nonprofit management, fashion, or manufacturing.
- Strong communication, organizational, and strategic planning skills.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, social media management, and website administration.
- Proven experience in grant writing and fundraising.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum three years of experience in nonprofit or business management.
- Knowledge of the fashion and sewn products industry.
- Background in marketing, business development, or community outreach.
- Experience working with a Board of Directors and managing staff.
COMPENSATION:
- Salary: $40,000 - $50,000, commensurate with experience.
