Purpose of position: The purpose of the HR Generalist position is to provide comprehensive support in several areas of human resources within Apple Tree. The HR Generalist is responsible for implementing HR policies and procedures, managing employee relations, benefits administration, and overall compliance with State and Federal labor laws.

Education/Experience/Licensure:

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, business administration, or related field
  • HR Certification preferred
  • 3-5 years of HR experience required.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal employment laws
  • Microsoft 365 and accounting proficiency preferred
  • Payroll experience preferred (ADP WorkForce Now preferred)
  • Benefits Administration experience preferred
  • HRIS system maintenance proficiency required (ADP WorkForce Now preferred)
  • Maintain high degree of accuracy in entry of employee data; extreme attention to detail expected
  • Successful completion of background checks

Fundamental Duties Include (but are not limited to):

  • Handle several day-to-day HR duties as they arise, providing support to HR Director and other Executive staff personnel as requested.
  • Communicate Benefit enrollment information to employees and follow up as needed in response to inquiries (plan coverage questions, work/life event changes, replacement ID cards, etc.).
  • Work with Benefit Brokers on updates to all items for annual open enrollment meetings.
  • Update benefit information to be communicated to employees.
  • Coordinate FMLA and Disability (ADA) filings; assist employees with questions, filings, and follow-ups.
  • Serve as an expert on Minnesota Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) for supervisors and employees.
  • May serve as HR Data Specialist for updates to ADP:
  • Prepare upcoming Payroll files with items for each payroll.
  • Work closely with Payroll on resolution of any items that may arise before or after transmission.
  • Back-up for processing bi-weekly payroll, run reports, etc.
  • Reviews payroll data prior to transmitting to ADP for processing.
  • Perform updates in ADP as needed for Benefits, custom reporting, added data fields, etc.
  • Prepares reports for upper management, auditors and benefit brokers as requested.
  • Act as liaison between HR and employees in resolution of employee relations issues, as well as other requests and questions.
  • Act as primary point of contact for the performance review process.
  • Responds and prepares responses for Unemployment claims.
  • Assist all Clinic Managers and employees with question resolution when needed (policy interpretation, etc.)
  • Create and audit Benefit bills monthly and presents them to finance for payment.
  • Serve as liaison when needed in resolution of employee issues with insurance companies
  • Complete Benefit paperwork requested by various counties on employees.
  • Communicate terminations to county on employees terminating and have a garnishment.
  • Process mandatory termination items: COBRA notifications/payments, Termination letter to employee, Notification to liability insurance company on Dentists for rear-coverage policies, exit interview process.
  • Serves as a member on 401K committee. Assist with reports and communications when needed.
  • Work with HR Manager and CFO on annual ACA and other annual compliance reporting.
  • Maintenance of HRIS system set-up of annual open enrollment data, resolution of carrier connection files issues, PTO adjustments, resolution of questions/problems relating to ADP, etc.
  • Support to HR Manager for Workman’s Compensation filing and follow-up.
  • Leads and completes necessary steps of 401K audit.
  • Pull data for annual Apple Tree Dental audit as requested.
  • Serves as a back-up for the creation of Employee Badges.
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Expectations: Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination normally associated with office tasks will be performed frequently. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols and to utilize telephones, computer terminals and copiers is required. Work under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required. The ability to lift up to 20 lbs. is required, up to 50 lbs. is helpful, but rare in occurrence.
