CLASS TITLE: NUTRITION SERVICES KITCHEN COORDINATOR
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, plan, organize, coordinate and participate in the preparation and serving of meals and other food items at an elementary school; prepare and maintain required records and reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Incumbents in the classification may not perform all of these tasks or may perform similar related tasks not listed here. (E1- frequent duties, E2- moderate duties, E3- occasional duties)
- Serve as a team lead to Train, assign and provide guidance for assigned personnel. (E1)
- Order food items, supplies and other materials in accordance with menu requirements and budget limitations. (E1)
- Check items received against orders and requisitions; assure proper storage and rotation of supplies. (E1)
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment and arrange for repairs as needed. (E1)
- Follow recipes and prepare food in large quantities. (E1)
- Prepare, serve and sell a variety of food items. (E1)
- Plan, organize, coordinate and participate in food preparation and serving duties in an elementary school cafeteria. (E2)
- Prepare and maintain Federal, State and District records and reports related to food service sales, personnel and inventory. (E3)
- Assure that periodic inventories are taken personally or by others. (E3)
- Assure proper maintenance of cafeteria equipment, utensils and facilities; clean and sanitize work and lunch areas according to health and safety regulations. (E3)
- Operate a computerized “Point of Sale” (POS) system. (E3)
- Operate and drive a vehicle in support of essential duties; observe legal and defensive driving practices. (E3)
- Maintain established food quality standards related to taste, appearance and good nutrition; maintain federal and state standards. (E1)
- Utilize government commodities and control costs. (E1)
- Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of quantity food preparation and serving experience required including one (1) year in a school district. Or Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties may be substituted for the required experience and/or education.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- A certificate stating freedom from Tuberculosis.
- Current state and county required food handling certificate
- A valid California Driver’s License.
- Valid First Aid Certification.
- Valid CPR Certification preferred.
- Current DMV printout upon completion of application.
KNOWLEDGE OF:

- Exposed to chemical agents and associated fumes from cleaning supplies.
- Exposed to dust and odors from cleaning agents and chemicals.
- Sharp kitchen utensils including but not limited to; knives, forks, slicers.
