Our team is responsible for the development of the inspection equipment that determines if a product meets Appleʼs high standards across all of the mechanical portion of our world-class hardware we make, including iPhone, Mac, iPad, Watch, VisionPro, and others.
Description
Are you passionate about building solutions to answer complex problems?. Our systems are responsible for the judgement of millions of units per day in an ambitious production environment. Our teams wear different hats, flexing between technical project management, data analytics, or even driving inspection and machine learning (ML) advancements through optical improvements. You will balance technical requirements while effectively managing collaboration with vendors to maintain the schedule and ramp dates.
We build software ML solutions all the way from inception to production using machine or computer vision for CNNs, object detection; scripting in Python, CLI, Linux and Unix; and ML and statistical analysis libraries, such as Turi Create, PyTorch, Keras, Scikit-learn, SciPy. We also use cloud computing platforms (AWS) and deployment tools like docker. Present analyses and ML concepts to a broad technical audience.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years experience applying computer vision, machine vision, or machine learning techniques to build models that are deployable into a manufacturing environment
- Software development skills in Python
- Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Design, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. Masters or PhD in a similar field is a plus
Key Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic networking concepts and protocols, e.g.: TCP/IP, HTTP, etc
- Experience with 2D/3D triangulation laser system and/or CCD inspection system such as Halcon, Keyence, Cognex, and/or Visco
- Familiar with mechanical metrology system qualification process, such as Gauge R&R, Correlation, Stability, and Reliability
- Understanding of optics, image acquisition, software filtering and judgment algorithms. Basic understanding of manufacturing processes (i.e. CNC, modeling, laser welding, etc)
- Intermediate knowledge of automation including system layout, architecture, and cycle time optimization for optical, motion and mechanical systems
- Ability to travel approximately 25-50% of the time
- Must have a strong interest and understanding of deep technical details and how it connects to the big picture of overall final product quality
- Creativity and collaboration will be key in excelling in this role

- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $151,200 and $227,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
