Job Title : Family Partner
Location : Mecklenburg and Cabarrus Counties
Reports To : ParentVOICE Program Manager
Job Summary :
The Family Partner (FP) provides parent-to-parent peer support, advocacy, and resources to help families achieve their goals. By fostering empowerment and collaboration, the FP promotes understanding between families, agencies, and the community. This role seeks to enhance access to informal supports, mentor families to become community resources, and support the organization's mission of promoting mental wellness through advocacy, education, and prevention.
Key Responsibilities :
Family Support & Advocacy :
Provide one-on-one peer mentoring and coaching to caregivers.
Share personal experiences to build trust and encourage family engagement.
Guide caregivers in effectively advocating for their child’s needs.
Help families navigate multiple service systems, including mental health, education, and social services.
Connect caregivers to community-based resources and support networks.
Offer emotional, supportive, and informational services using a strengths-based, empowerment approach.
Attend meetings with families to advocate for their child’s needs.
Model and teach advocacy skills to families.
Provide Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) Level 3 support with fidelity to the model.
Community Outreach & Engagement :
Recruit and engage new families in ParentVOICE and related services.
Represent the organization at community events and outreach activities.
Speak to various groups (civic, faith-based, educational) about available programs.
Identify potential candidates for Family Partner Training Institute participation.
Serve on community committees as approved by the supervisor.
Education & Training :
Assist in planning and delivering monthly workshops as part of the Real Talk, Real Support series.
Develop and implement caregiver empowerment and leadership trainings.
Provide information on mental health issues to families and agency professionals.
Administrative Duties :
Maintain accurate documentation of work activities, contacts, and referrals.
Track assessments for families receiving one-on-one peer support.
Ensure timely completion of paperwork related to Triple P and other programs.
Respond to phone and email inquiries about available services.
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
Support organizational fundraising, advocacy, and educational events.
Qualifications & Skills :
Lived experience as a caregiver raising a child / youth with mental, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
Strong knowledge of local community resources and service systems.
Ability to engage and build trust with diverse families.
Excellent communication, advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
Experience with facilitation and public speaking.
Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and ethical standards.
Proficiency in computer applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Salesforce).
Bilingual proficiency (if applicable) is a plus.
Education & Experience :
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field preferred.
High school diploma (or equivalent) with 3-5 years of relevant experience considered.
Experience working with families and children with behavioral, emotional, or neurological challenges.
Must complete Family Peer Specialist Certification within two years of employment.

Valid NC driver’s license or photo ID.
