QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below. An example of an acceptable qualification for this position:
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
2. Must possess current EMT & CPR Certifications.
3. Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and be insurable under District policy
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, responds to emergencies; assesses injuries and provides emergency medical treatment per level of training; operates emergency medical equipment; transports injured or sick persons to medical facilities.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive.
Ambulance and other emergency vehicles, emergency medical equipment, hand tools, two-way radio.
INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS: For purposes of O.R.C. 4167.
The employee: works with and around vehicles and equipment; is exposed to blood and other bodily fluids; is exposed to hazardous materials; may have contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; is exposed to potentially vicious animals; is exposed to possibly life threatening situations; is exposed to potentially infectious and contagious diseases; works in or around hazardous traffic conditions; works while using personal protective equipment such as eye, face, head, foot, or respiratory protection.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered heavy work.
JOB DESCRIPTION AND WORKER CHARACTERISTICS:
JOB DUTIES in order of importance
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: For purposes of 42 USC 12101.
1. Responds to life threatening situations and provides emergency medical treatment as per level of training and operates emergency medical equipment.
2. Operates Ambulance and other related equipment.
3. Inspects, cleans, tests, and performs parts replacement on emergency medical equipment.
4. Maintains equipment and work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
5. Maintains confidential information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
6. Must be able to accurately document patient reports under the guidance and supervision of the Medical Director.
7. Follows all department safety practices and procedures.
8. Attends safety meetings or seminars.
9. Maintains required licenses and/or certificates.
10. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Attends workshops or seminars related to duties performed.
2. Demonstrates and maintains satisfactory public relations.
3. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS: (*indicates developed after employment).
Knowledge of: District policies and procedures; geographic layout of jurisdiction; emergency medical care procedures; first aid practices, cardiopulmonary resuscitation; medical terminology; safety practices and procedures; public relations; occupational hazards.
Skill in: ambulance operation; emergency medical equipment; two-way radio.
Ability to: interpret policies, procedures, and regulations; carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions; read and interpret trauma victims’ vial signs and determine appropriate emergency care including life support and/or intensive care techniques; deal with many variables and determine specific action; recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; exercise independent judgment; understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, or regulations to specific situations; communicate effectively; develop and maintain effective working relationships; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time in often adverse conditions; travel to and gain access to work site; lift, position, and move disabled or bedridden clients/patients; operate heavy equipment and hand tools; lift up to 80 pounds; work safely; exhibit and maintain satisfactory work ethics and public relations; work in adverse weather conditions.
