Job Title: Vice President of Business Development
Our client is looking for a Business Development leader to develop utility-scale solar photovoltaic, battery energy storage, and green hydrogen projects. The ideal candidate will leverage industry knowledge, exceptional communication, and meticulous organizational skills to manage projects from inception through to completion in the US wholesale power markets, particularly within the WECC region including CAISO.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Spearhead the greenfield development of utility-scale solar power generation facilities.
- Facilitate cross-functional communications to mitigate project risks.
- Oversee negotiations and management of various agreements including tax abatement's, land use, and interconnection.
- Manage project budgets, objectives, schedules, and deliverables.
- Conduct site visits for project evaluation.
- Support land use, environmental permitting, and preliminary engineering efforts.
- Coordinate real estate title curative processes.
- Guide the interconnection process from application to agreement.
- Engage with community and governmental bodies for project endorsement.
- Lead and manage contractors, vendors, and consultants to adhere to project timelines and budgets.
- Handle permitting and environmental compliance throughout project life cycle.
- Collaborate on financial feasibility, analysis, and valuation modeling.
- Take full ownership of projects, from economic justification to executive-level sign-offs.
- May lead a small team of Analysts, Associates, and/or Managers.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Deep experience in CAISO and/or Southwestern US market.
- Comprehensive understanding of utility-scale renewable energy project development and marketing.
- Expert knowledge in interconnection, permitting, real estate, regulations, and utility procurement.
- Profound grasp of economic drivers in renewable energy projects.
- Ability to articulate complex issues clearly to various stakeholders.
- Proven leadership in project life cycle management.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office suite, especially Excel, and Google Earth.
- Self-motivated with a track record of delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines.
- Strong capability in risk assessment, opportunity recognition, and contract analysis.
- Minimum 10 years in the energy sector with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; MBA preferred.
