Vice President of Operations – Commercial Construction

Overview
A leading commercial construction firm is seeking an experienced Vice President of Operations to oversee and drive the success of its business units. This executive leader will ensure operational excellence by fostering a culture of collaboration, efficiency, and continuous improvement, while delivering profitable growth and client satisfaction.
The VP of Operations will lead key strategic initiatives, implement data-driven decision-making, and optimize processes to enhance performance across the organization. This role requires an experienced construction operations executive with a strong background in managing large-scale commercial projects, improving business unit performance, and developing high-performing teams.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Oversee all aspects of commercial construction operations, ensuring alignment with company goals and strategic plans.
- Develop and execute tactical and strategic initiatives to drive growth, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Establish key performance metrics, monitor progress, and ensure accountability at all levels.
- Lead business unit meetings, audits, and performance evaluations to ensure operational effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and best practices in construction operations.
Team & Process Development
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Commercial VPs, Directors of Operations, General Superintendents, and Preconstruction Leaders.
- Develop and implement process improvements to streamline operations, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance productivity.
- Remove obstacles and barriers that hinder project execution and operational success.
- Act as a trusted advisor and mentor, ensuring decision-making aligns with business objectives and risk management strategies.
- Drive organizational learning and knowledge sharing, reinforcing best practices and operational success strategies.
Client & Business Performance Management
- Ensure a customer-focused approach to project delivery, resolving challenges and improving overall client experience.
- Oversee problem resolution efforts, driving consistency across all business units.
- Analyze operational data and financial reports to identify trends, maximize profitability, and improve resource allocation.
- Collaborate with Corporate Services Departments to enhance business performance and service delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- 10-15 years of experience in a senior operations role within a commercial construction firm with $1B in revenue.
- Proven track record of leading large-scale commercial construction operations and developing high-performance teams.
- Strong knowledge of construction management, scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
- Experience in strategic planning, business growth, and process improvement.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex data to drive decision-making and business performance.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with a results-driven mindset.
