Applewood Nursery is a rapidly growing garden center with a great reputation serving Forest Lake and surrounding areas. Our objective is that our customers receive the best possible service every time we work with them. We are currently looking for career-minded, highly-motivated, skilled, and outgoing person to join our growing team as a Garden Retail Center Manager.
Purpose:
Leads and supervises the Garden Center Sales team members. Responsible for training, providing feedback and ensuring healthy plants and happy customers. Works closely with Garden Center Production Manager, Owner, and Human Resources to ensure appropriate staffing level. This position will focus on Sales versus Production.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction to the Garden Center Sales team in conjunction with the Garden Center Production Manager, including training, follow-up and feedback.
- Work closely with the Garden Center Production Manager and Human Resources to hire employees, provide feedback and give performance reviews and feedback for general employee or performance issues.
- Provide excellent customer service to assist customers in the selection of plant and landscape materials.
- Direct and participate in the work to set up the sales area in the spring and maintain it throughout the season, including creating and maintaining merchandising displays.
- Have strong knowledge base of our products and services in order to best help customers.
- Communicate expectations to team members, then hold them to the standards which will meet or exceed those expectations.
- Enforce Handbook policies with team members.
- Responsible for assisting in planting, and/or directing the work of those planting, in winter/spring.
- Maintain appearance of stock, including watering, trimming dead flowers, and general tidiness of the grounds.
- Assist in loading and unloading of landscape materials. Including, but not limited to: plants, block, natural stone, edging, etc.
- Assist and direct staff to pull orders for retail and wholesale customers.
- Maintain a positive attitude when working with customer and coworkers.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
- 2 or more years of leadership experience, working with a wide range of ages and skills to get the work done.
- 5 or more years of experience in the green industry, including working with plants, trees and/or shrubs.
- Experience training employees with a wide ranges of skills or knowledge about plants is preferred.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and provide training around customer service as needed.
- Strong work ethic – willing to learn new things on a daily basis.
- Positive attitude.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions and enjoy working outside.
- Must be able to stand, bend and lift 50lbs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
