Project Engineer (EIT) (Civil / Structural)
Applied Building Sciences, Inc. (ABS), a firm specializing in structural and forensic engineering, building envelope consulting, and architecture is seeking a Project Engineer (EIT) for the Charleston, South Carolina office.
Description: The ideal candidate is an Engineer-In-Training (EIT), with a B.S. (M.S. preferred) in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. The candidate must have the professional goal of pursuing professional engineering licensure. The focus of the position will be in forensic and structural engineering. This position requires the ability to work on a multi-disciplinary team as well as independently on assigned projects, strong technical writing skills, and the ability to apply engineering principles to solve problems. Typical projects include forensic investigation to determine what caused the damage or failure of a structure, preparation of technical reports that describe the extent and cause of damage, and preparation of engineering drawings and specifications to repair the damage. Typical duties are:
• Local and regional travel for field work.
• Preparing organized field notes, photos, and research for project files.
• Preparing engineering calculations by hand, Excel, and MathCAD.
• Developing structural models using software such as RAM, STAAD, or Etabs.
• Writing technical reports that provide observations, analysis, and conclusions.
• Preparing engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
Education: B.S. in Civil Engineering (minimum). M.S. in Engineering (strongly preferred).
Minimum Requirements:
• Must be willing to perform field work which may include roof access (by ladder/scaffolding), crawl space and/or attic access. Must be able to climb ladders and carry equipment up to 25 lbs.
• Must be willing to primarily work in the office, with flexibility for remote work.
• Must own/operate a vehicle and have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
• Must be proficient in MS Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
• Basic proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Enthusiastic willingness to learn structural analysis software, new testing methods, and new engineering skills
• Enthusiastic willingness to participate in and contribute to professional/industry committees and organizations (American Society of Civil Engineers, Structural Engineering Institute, etc.)
