What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Technician I position at Applied Chemical Technology?
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, biology, or industrial hygiene required
- 0-3 years’ experience in related sciences, i.e., chemistry, biology, physical science, industrial hygiene, or other related laboratory or chemical fields, preferred
- Experience with preparation and analysis of various samples and development of testing standards and methods, preferred
Required Skills:
- Ability to read, understand, and execute various Laboratory procedures and equipment (microscopes, ovens, balances, glassware)
- Working knowledge of properties of chemicals, basic laboratory methods, and inorganic and physical chemistry
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to learn new methods and equipment quickly
- Ability to multitask and work on several projects simultaneously
- Ability to perform work quickly and accurately, while keeping recorded data neat
- Effective communication through verbal, written, and electronic formats
- Ability to maintain a professional, courteous, and tactful working relationship with other employees and with clients and visitors
- Ability to maintain a clean work environment and a professional appearance while on the job
- Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to work with limited supervision
- Must pass drug test and physical screening
Job Duties: Will include, but limited to, the following:
- Report to the Laboratory/R&D Manager in the Process Engineering Department
- Respect and adhere to all active contracts and confidentiality agreements with Applied Chemical Technology and associated clients
- Respect and adhere to all safety rules, procedures, and complete all necessary safety training
- Perform analysis of samples, collect data from testing, and create reports detailing findings and results
- Assist in the general upkeep of the laboratory facilities, equipment, and supplies (including cleanup after projects are completed), as well as follow all procedures in the movement of laboratory equipment between laboratories
- Assist in the maintenance of laboratory records and client reports
- Assist, as need, with Pilot Plant setup, breakdown, operation, data collection, and cleanup
- Perform other functions in the Laboratory as requested by Laboratory Manager or higher management
Physical Demands: As necessary to carry out essential duties and responsibilities, requiring:
- Coordinate the use of both hands to perform tasks
- Work in extreme temperatures for long periods of time
- Standing on feet for most of the day
- Lifting and handling of Laboratory equipment of up to 50 lbs.
- Reaching overhead, stooping, kneeling, walking, talking, hearing, reading, and seeing
Hours: 40 hrs/week; must be able to work on short notice and work extra hours, including weekends, if needed.
