The Senior Vice President for Engineering (SVPE) has primary responsibility for development of sources
and related technologies based on ultrashort pulsed (USP) lasers. Duties include oversight of advanced

of Proposals and White Papers, Customer interface, assessment of new technologies, and updates to
Technology and Product Roadmaps. This position is central to technical decision-making and execution
for evolving applications and missions at our Tucson, AZ site. This position reports to the CEO.

Responsibilities
- Oversee development of products based on, and for use with, USP laser sources and systems.
- Define and prioritize Engineering tasks and goals, and manage resources, to ensure the timely delivery and success of projects and programs.
- Oversee laboratory activities in the fields of USP sources, high-peak-power laser physics and sensing, as well as the development and use of AE's suite of numerical and analytical tools.
- Engage with US Government and commercial Customers on product performance and validation requirements and on the planning and execution at all stages of DoD development and acquisition cycles.
- Participate in strategic decision making as a member of Senior Leadership.
- Conceive, prepare and review Research and Development proposals and plans.
- Primary technical responsibility for the documentation of Intellectual Property.
- Establishment and refinement of Engineering-related processes consistent with standards for Quality Management Systems.
- Graduate degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or related field, with 10 years of related technical and managerial experience.
- Advanced knowledge of fiber and solid-state lasers and amplifiers, USP sources, and nonlinear optical phenomena as applied to source development and applications.
- Successful record of accomplishment in scientific and industrial research and development.
- Significant experience in the development of USP sources and systems, and in leading advanced research and development activities.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, troubleshooting, decision-making, and analytical skills necessary to anticipate and determine appropriate actions in finding solutions to complex technical issues.
- Accomplished written and verbal communication skills as required to engage Customers, author and review technical and scientific reports and publications, to deliver technical presentations.
- Substantial project-management experience on mid-to-large scale development projects.
- PhD in Physics, Optics, or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with high-energy USP lasers and amplifiers and with wavelength-agile sources.
- Record of accomplishment in advancing USP concepts through development to product release.
- Extensive experience in resource management, with strong record of team building and training.
- This position requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
- Employment is contingent upon confirmation of eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter based on a Federal background investigation.
- Must have the ability to work in a clean-room environment with hazardous chemicals, compressed gases, lasers, and high voltage on a regular basis, use personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, respirators, gloves, and aprons.
- Requires up to 20% domestic travel.
- This role is classified as a safety-sensitive position which involves a heightened danger that requires an employee's full and unimpaired skills and judgment to safely execute the job.
