Physical Requirements: Regularly sit, talk, and hear. Regularly stand, walk, and climb. Working near moving mechanical parts. Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises. Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part of the job (more than 70%) Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situation that require extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
Job Descriptions:
The Sheet Metal Helper/Apprentice will provide assistance to Sheet Metal Journeyman in the fabrication, assembly, installation and repair of sheet metal equipment, products and structures. Duties include using, supplying or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment. Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure. Perform other related duties as assigned.
The Sheet Metal Journeyman is under the direct supervision of the Sheet Metal Forman. The installation of fabricated sheet metal in commercial and industrial mechanical projects is primary responsibility of the Sheet Metal Journeyman. Determine project requirements, including scope, assembly sequences, and required methods and materials, according to blue prints, drawings, and written or verbal instructions. Maneuver completed units into position for installation, and anchor the units. Install assemblies, such as flashing, pipes, tubes, heating and air conditioning ducts, furnace casings, rain gutters, and down spouts, in supportive frameworks. Fabricate or alter parts at construction sites, using shears, hammers, punches, and drills. Perform other related duties as assigned.
