  • Waste and Chemical Handling: Follow strict protocols for waste classification, labeling, and storage to ensure compliance with environmental regulations as well as following safety guidelines for handling and transporting chemicals.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all waste handling and storage practices adhere to local, state, and federal environmental regulations and maintain accurate records of hazardous material collection, transportation, and disposal.
  • Spill Response: Act as a first responder to spills, ensuring proper containment and cleanup using approved methods and equipment.
  • Site Management and Logistics: Regularly travel to various buildings (e.g., RSM, LF, and Irvine) to perform waste collection, storage maintenance, and other sustainability tasks. Use a company truck or personal vehicle for transportation as required.

Performance Objectives:

Within your first 30 days:

  • Successfully complete the 5-day hazardous waste class, gaining comprehensive knowledge of waste handling procedures, proper use of PPE, and spill response.
  • Learn and demonstrate proper spill containment and cleanup techniques, including when to escalate issues.
  • Familiarize yourself with the environmental sustainability systems across different sites (RSM, LF, Irvine), including storage areas for hazardous materials.

Within your first 60 days:

  • Begin independently collecting and consolidating hazardous waste from various departments, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and use PPE correctly and consistently when handling hazardous materials.
  • Actively participate in spill response drills and apply learned techniques to contain and clean up minor spills while reporting any issues or concerns promptly to senior team members.
  • Begin traveling between sites (RSM, LF, and Irvine), using company truck or personal vehicle as required, to manage waste collection and storage tasks.

Within you first 90 days:

  • Independently manage hazardous waste collection, consolidation, and storage across sites with minimal supervision while ensuring proper labeling, documentation, and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Respond to spill incidents independently, demonstrating a high level of competence in containment, cleanup, and reporting.
  • Support ongoing environmental sustainability initiatives within the department.

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Previous exposure to or experience in a hazardous waste or environmental setting is necessary.
  • Willingness to undergo training and adhere to safety guidelines for handling hazardous materials and waste.

  • Must be a great listener who can follow instructions clearly and accurately.
