What are the responsibilities and job description for the Front End Software Applications Developer - Security Clearance Required position at Applied Research Laboratory at the Penn State University?
We are seeking talented, experienced and highly motivated front end software developer to join our Algorithms, Prototyping, and Integration (API) team of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University (PSU). You will assist ARL in providing its customers with state of the art visualization and decision support. As a team member, you will collaborate with our data analytics and software teams to design and improve custom developed geo-spatially focused situational awareness displays as well as other user interface displays.
You will :
Develop, test, and transition Java and JavaScript based software applications to operationally critical environments
Develop front-end web services including all aspects of server, client, and web components
Develop unique algorithmic and implementation solutions to a wide array of sponsor requirements
Work within an agile development environment with other developers, scrum master and product owners with scoping, developing and delivering quality software solutions
Work with users to analyze their requirements; evaluate new tools and technologies to enhance performance
Collaborate with other staff and sponsors, spending a majority of time working in a classified environment
This job can be filled at multiple levels, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher and 3 or more years’ related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional experience and / or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
Additional duties of a higher level will include :
Integrate more complex elements and technological advances into work assignments
Lead portions of large tasks or projects
Required skills and experience :
Strong understanding and experience in client-side scripting and JavaScript libraries and frameworks such as React, NodeJS, webpack, and Redux
Understanding and experience in web markup languages including HTML, CSS, and SCSS
Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on being a team player
Preferred skills and experience :
Understanding and experience in spatiotemporal web frameworks such as Google Maps, OpenLayers, or Cesium
Experience with or knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies
Active TS / SCI Clearance
Your working location will be located in either State College, Pennsylvania or Reston, Virginia.
