JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
The Computational Methods Development Department, located in the Fluid Dynamics and Acoustics Office, in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking a High Performance Computing Engineer to assist in the development of physics-based tools on state-of-the-art and next generation High Performance Computing (HPC) hardware.
Responsibilities include :
- manage, monitor, and help maintain ARL HPC systems
- interact with engineers, faculty, and students on computational needs
- implement state-of-the-art high-performance computing algorithms to ensure efficient solutions for in-house-developed codes
- assist in the development of physics-based computational fluid and structural dynamic codes operating in a heterogeneous high-performance computing environment
- provide guidance for short and long-term strategies for expanding and acquiring ARL’s next generation supercomputer hardware and software to maintain solver efficiency and fast turnaround of Navy-critical modeling activities
- implement solver and application-specific input / output algorithms to optimize disk usage and solution times for high-speed, high-throughput file systems
- attend conferences and workshops relevant to HPC and advanced skills
- stay current with emerging HPC technologies and trends
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Master's degree preferred) or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Applied Mechanics, or another related computational field is desired.
