Purpose Statement
The job of Culinary Arts Teacher is done for the purpose/s of developing student's culinary skills by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; developing lesson plans, modeling the necessary skills to performing assigned tasks; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectation, goals, etc.
The job reports to the principal.
Essential Functions
- Instructs students for the purpose of improving their knowledge and skills in the culinary arts and in the proper use of equipment, tools and/or supplies.
- Advises parents and/or lega guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
- Assesses student progress, expectations, goals, etc. for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
- Monitors student activities (e.g. classroom, lunch, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students.
- Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
- Prepares teaching materials and releated reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress.
- Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintainging personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, administrative and/or school policies.
Job Requirements: Mininum Qualifications
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques and developing interpersonal relationships with pupils, parents, teachers, staff and the general public; outstanding verbal and written skills.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: knowledge of instructional technology and its applications to the teaching of Culinary Arts; extensive knowledge and experience in culinary arts, hospitality, and food service.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meeting, and or/events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexiblity is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, independent problem solving is required and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: ability to use commercial food service equipment, manage a budget, control equipment inventory and willingness to work with special food service events; ability in communicating with diverse groups; working with frequent interruptions and working with other teachers to promote interdisciplinary studies.
Responsibility
Responsibilites include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the Organization's services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 20% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.
Experience: Job related experience is required, 2 year minimum.
Education: Bachelors degree in job related area or Associate's degree in Culinary Arts or Baking & Pastry and ability to pass state department trade exam.
Required Testing Certificates & Licenses
Pre-employment TB Test SC CTE Work-based Certification in Culinary Arts to include
Associates Degree in Culinary Arts or Baking & Pastry, 2 years full time industry experience, and complete state department trade exam.
Continuing Educ./Training Clearances
120 renewal credits every 5 years Satisfactory SLEC (SC Law Enforcement Division) report;
outstanding references from current and former employers.

Salary Range: Teacher Salary Schedule
Length of Contract: 190 days
Starting Date: 2025-2026 School Year
