Job Summary : The Health Information Management Director plans, directs, and coordinates all activities in the Health Information Management Department to provide timely and quality services to the facility. The Health Information Management Director is also responsible for developing policies and procedures for the collection, storage, and retrieval of patient health information.
Duties and responsibilities :
- Oversees and directs the Health Information Management Department.
- Maintains the department budget and makes adjustments accordingly.
- Develops policies and procedures to assure that records are completed and processed according to Health Information Management practices, State and Federal policies, and DNV requirements.
- Oversees the management of release of information requests and ensures medical records are only released to authorized individuals.
- Facilitates audits and ensures all information provided is accurate and complete.
- Builds out Health Information Management dictionaries in Meditech.
- Provides and ensures ICD-10 training for all appropriate personnel.
- Ensures the Electronic Health Records system is used in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Ensures medical records are kept secure and confidential.
- Submits Heidi Health data quarterly.
- Addresses all concerns regarding Recovery Audit Contractor letters.
- Completes Reappointment Questionnaires.
- Leads the Medical Records Committee.
- Acts as a backup Coder.
- Performs other job-related duties as requested.
