About the Position – Machinist/Apprentice:

Highland Machine Works seeks motivated individuals to join their team as Machinists Apprentices.

• The ability to read and understand technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams is critical.
• Competence in using tools like calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges for precision measurement.
• Understanding measurements, decimals, fractions, and geometric shapes is essential for interpreting blueprints and ensuring precision.
• Knowledge of basic machine operation, including mills, lathes, CNCs, and manual machining equipment.
• Understanding different types of materials (e.g., metals, alloys, plastics) and how they react to machining processes.
• Familiarity with tools, machines, and mechanical systems to understand their operations and maintenance.
• Familiarity with CNC programming languages (e.g., G-code) and CAD/CAM software for modern machining environments.
• Understanding of workplace safety protocols, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe handling of tools and materials.
• Precision and focus on small details to ensure quality and safety.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues with machines, tools, or processes.
• Managing tasks efficiently to meet deadlines and production schedules.
• Willingness to learn, adapt, and handle physical and mentally demanding tasks.
• Working collaboratively with others in a machine shop or production environment.
• Ability to clearly communicate with supervisors, coworkers, and clients regarding designs, problems, or adjustments.

• Must have state residency in Arkansas 
• Completed high school diploma or GED equivalent 
• Must have the ability to work in the United States without a current or future need for visa sponsorship.
• Must have personal drive and eagerness to learn.
• Ability to pass a drug and background check. (Based on Company requirements)
• Be available to work (7-5:30 M-Th, 7-3:30 F) and additional OT

Shifts:

Work weeks are a steady 48-hour-a-week regularly scheduled shift, (7-5:30 M-Th, 7-3:30 F) additional OT on an as-needed basis.

As an Apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience through a full-time paid job, designed to help individuals from non-traditional backgrounds acquire the knowledge, tools, and skills necessary for a thriving career in machining. This program offers a pathway to learn and master the operation of Lathes, Mills, and CNC machines, even if you start with minimal experience.

Once you complete your Apprenticeship you will have the skills to:

Operate Lathes, Mills, and CNC machines to create precision parts based on provided blueprints.

Properly measure work performed using tape measures, scale rulers, calipers, micrometers, gage blocks, gage pins, height gages, and other digital, analog, and vernier measuring equipment.

Perform complex calculations with assistance as needed; understanding or ability to learn basic geometric calculations, including the Pythagorean theorem, is advantageous.
