Position : Patient Financial Counselor

Pay Rate : $28 / hr

Duration : 26 weeks

Expected Shift : 8am-5pm , 40 hrs / week

JOB SUMMARY

Patient Financial Counselor - Insurance Verification and Authorization (Tukwila, WA - Potential to go HYBRID but will start onsite)

Must have insurance verification and authorizations.

Preferred experience in home health.

GENERAL SUMMARY - The Home Health Insurance Specialist facilitates requests for insurance authorization for Home Health patients. Reviews cases on admission and throughout the home health certification to determine authorization needs of the patient receiving home health services. The goal of the position is to facilitate comprehensive patient management by ensuring all services to be provided are covered for reimbursement. These efforts enhance customer service to payers and patients with a single point of contact. Maintains a working knowledge of the Home Health rates, rules, procedures and operational guidelines. Reviews all consents and other supporting documentation for compliance with the Medicare and commercial guidelines. Plays an integral role in the development and implementation of ongoing processes for utilization and authorization of patient services. Works with the Home Health management team and other integral staff in Home Health including billing, HH Access Services, and other Home Health staff as appropriate. Is a resource to all Home Health departments regarding the patient's current and ongoing insurance status.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for accurate verification of insurance benefits and documents patient benefits with payers.

Coordinates payment for all services required according to payer specifications.

Maintains home health documentation of write-offs as appropriate.

Negotiates prices and guidelines for insurance reimbursement.

Coordinates the private pay patients' payment for services.

Problem solves insurance errors and researches insurance requirements for patient care.

Responsible for problem solving workflow issues with billing team and ensures that patient benefits are accurate in EMR.

Responsible for researching and accurately answering complex insurance benefit questions with team and patients.

Consults with clinical management as needed for complex patient insurance coverage challenges.

Assigns and maintains accurate insurance benefits so that patient care is billed accurately and timely manner.

Utilizes critical thinking skills in determining coverage for unique patient care situations.

Acts as a resource for clinical care teams throughout the region regarding insurance questions and coverage parameters.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops and maintains reports on clinical insurance management as appropriate.

Re-authorizes patient care activities with payers and other HH team members according to payer specifications.

Coordinates assessments with HH staff and financial counselors of a private patients resources to pay.

QUALIFICATION EXPERIENCE

Required / Preferred Minimum Experience Details

Required 2 years Recent experience in health care billing / insurance

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Current knowledge of insurance regulatory standards preferred.

Knowledge of payer contracts preferred.

Knowledge of admission consents preferred.

Ability to maintain an organized work area.

Ability to learn medical records software.

Ability to communicate effectively with clinicians.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.
