What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Assistant position at APT Foundation?
GENERAL PURPOSE: Research Assistant (RA) needed for a full-time 1-year position in a Yale School of Medicine clinical research program conducted at the APT Foundation in New Haven CT. This position may be ideal for a recent graduate who wishes to build up relevant work experience prior to applying for medical or graduate school. Under the direct supervision of the Project Director, the RA will act as the subject recruiter and interviewer for an NIH-funded study examining stepped-care interventions for patients with chronic pain and opioid use disorder. The RA prepares data from these interviews for statistical analyses and project reports. The RA coordinates implementation and tracking of research study procedures.
ANTICIPATED START DATE: December 2024
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Recruits substance abusing individuals for research studies (e.g., post brochures and fliers, attends clinics), develops ongoing relationship with staff of local medical organizations and makes them aware of study protocols.
2. Initiates and maintains contacts with clients and schedules interviews.
3. Conducts interviews and assessments in research study settings (e.g., MRU) or in alternate setting if necessary (e.g., hospital) and enters data.
4. Organizes client logs and other study-related interviewing materials.
5. Reports recruiting and interviewing progress to the Project Director and other team
members.
6. Performs office related activities (e.g., photocopying, faxing).
7. Manages data sets; prepares and presents data-related reports.
8. Ensures completeness and accuracy of data sets from multiple studies. Works to resolve inconsistencies or incomplete data sets.
9. Performs basic data analysis using commercial software products (e.g. Excel).
10. Assists in development and refinement of data collection systems.
11. Conducts literature searches.
12. Attends work punctually, attends weekly staff meetings, and completes time sheets
accurately and promptly.
13. Performs other related duties and responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in psychology, science, or related field
2. Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to communicate clearly.
3. Extensive computer skills, including all basic skills (e-mail, internet browser, word processing, and spreadsheets), and database and statistical skills.
4. Excellent data entry and management skills.
5. Excellent organizational skills.

9. Ability to multitask.
10. Willingness and ability to travel to different clinical settings to conduct
