Position Description Summary
APT Research is hiring a Payroll/Accounts Payable employee in Huntsville, AL headquarters office as a hybrid position.
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of payroll processes. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and company policies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in payroll processing, a keen eye for detail, and strong organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities- Payroll Processing: Accurately process bi-weekly payroll for all employees, including the calculation of wages, overtime, and deductions
- Compliance: Ensure payroll practices comply with federal and state regulations and company policies
- Record Keeping: Maintain and update payroll records in compliance with company policies and legal requirements
- Reporting: Prepare payroll reports, including tax filings, wage summaries, and other required documentation
- Audits: Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary payroll information and documentation
- Problem Resolution: Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries and discrepancies in a timely manner
- System Management: Utilize payroll software to process payroll and manage employee records
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance payroll operations
Detailed Responsibilities
- Process employee leave and reconcile balances
- Remit payroll taxes
- File payroll tax returns
- File sales and use taxes
- Upload 401k contributions to Fidelity and reconcile balances
- Update deferral changes in Costpoint
- Process check runs and ACH payments for upload to bank
- Reconcile monthly bank and credit card statements
- Reconcile benefit invoices
- Review new hire data in Costpoint
- Set up employee banking data
- Create, print, and mail Form W-2 to employees
- Create, print, and mail Form 1099 to contractors
- Process year-end leave reconciliation
Required Experience/Education:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field preferred
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in payroll processing or a related role
Preferred Experience
- Proficiency in software Deltek Costpoint
- Experience creating journal entries
- Experience successfully completing a month-end close
- Experience supporting DCAA and other external financial audits
- Experience with the FAR
- Certifications: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
