We are seeking a Windows Desktop Image Specialist to lead a mission-critical project focused on building and deploying a custom Windows 11 desktop image. This role requires someone with deep expertise in Windows image creation, security hardening, and legacy software compatibility. The ideal candidate will reverse engineer an existing Windows 10 environment, ensuring a seamless transition to Windows 11, while maintaining stability, security, and compliance.
This is a high-impact role supporting a proprietary, kiosk-like dispatching application. The software is essential to operations, meaning the new Windows 11 image must be rock solid and highly reliable. The role involves extensive testing, troubleshooting, and collaboration with multiple teams, including security, compliance, and third-party vendors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Windows 11 Image Creation: Build a custom Windows 11 image from the ground up, ensuring full compatibility with proprietary dispatch software.
- Reverse Engineering & Modernization: Analyze and document the existing Windows 10 image, identifying critical configurations and adapting them for Windows 11.
- Security & Compliance: Implement Active Directory Group Policies (GPOs), security hardening techniques, and other compliance measures.
- Legacy Software Compatibility: Work closely with the vendor to ensure the proprietary 20-year-old dispatching software functions properly in the new environment.
- Testing & Deployment: Coordinate rigorous beta testing across multiple teams, refine the image based on feedback, and oversee deployment.
- Documentation: Create detailed documentation for future updates, including configuration changes, security protocols, and deployment processes.
- SCCM & Deployment Management: Manage the capture and redeployment of the image using SCCM and other deployment tools.
- Hardware & BIOS Configuration: Configure new Windows 11 machines and Windows servers, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
