The Foundation for Physical Therapy Research (Foundation) is a national nonprofit that funds research and develops researchers to optimize movement and health by providing promising researchers grants, scholarships, and fellowships. The Foundation is the funding organization for the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). All staff are employees of APTA.

Summary
A 12-week paid internship is available beginning in May 2025. Interns work on site in the Foundation’s offices located at APTA Headquarters at 3030 Potomac Ave, Alexandria, Virginia.
The summer internship provides an opportunity to work at the Foundation and learn more about the profession. The interns also work on specific projects related to research, fundraising, and communications.
Criteria/Responsibilities
Work directly with various Foundation staff in three important areas:
- Support fundraising activities, including our PT/PTA student-led Marquette Challenge;
- Help with communication and awareness activities on website, video and various social media platforms;
- Working with the Foundation’s Scientific Program staff on various projects related to grants awarded to physical therapy researchers.

- Complies with all APTA policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned to foster achievement of association priorities.
Qualifications
- Prospective interns must be 2025 or 2026 graduates from a 4-year undergraduate institution and interested in becoming a PT or PTA or be enrolled in a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program.
- Applicants must have education, experience or interest in physical therapy or a demonstrated interest in Foundation affairs.
- Applicants must have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently and have computer skills that include Microsoft Office.
