Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Medical Collector to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing accounts receivable, ensuring timely collection of payments from patients and insurance companies, and maintaining accurate records. This role requires a strong understanding of medical billing processes, coding systems, and excellent communication skills to effectively resolve billing issues.
Duties
- Manage and follow up on outstanding medical accounts to ensure timely collection of payments.
- Review patient accounts for accuracy and completeness, identifying discrepancies in billing or coding.
- Communicate with patients regarding their account status, payment options, and any questions they may have.
- Collaborate with insurance companies to resolve claims denials and appeals.
- Maintain thorough documentation of all collection activities in the medical records system.
- Utilize knowledge of medical coding (ICD-9, ICD-10) and DRG to ensure accurate billing practices.
- Work closely with the medical office team to streamline processes related to collections and billing.
- Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices related to medical collections.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in medical collection or a related field is preferred.
- Strong understanding of medical billing processes and coding systems (ICD-9, ICD-10).
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective patient interaction.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in using medical office systems and software for record keeping and billing purposes.
